The pair of dogs heard on this track were recorded through an open window at the Ceiling 4-track studios (Troy, Ontario, Canada). The dogs belong to a neighbor about a hundred feet away, and have caused complications for individuals bike-riding or walking, and also for the Ceiling guard dog, who often spends a few minutes each day in a verbal exchange with the two dogs.
The source recording was originally made late at night when the dogs were disrupting sleep. The recording was subsequently played back often as an exercise to allow the "music" of the barking to become more apparent, and defuse the original aggravations caused by the dogs.
The barking also tended to be a quiet backdrop to various recording sessions. Due to the mental states involved at these times, the raw sounds tended to be transformed in their trip past the headphone padding. The reworking of the original recordings is an attempt to reflect this. November, 2003.
