about

Massimo is the second offering from Dutch surrealistic experimentalist CONE after his first self titled debut. The field recordings for the EP were done on Sicily and the guitar mantra’s and noises were recorded at Casa Cassette in The Netherlands using cassette tape only. Just like the ancient island itself, Massimo is a mix of a lot of things coming together. Sometimes those things fit and sometimes they don’t. I tried to capture the heat and laziness of a Sicilian summer and the trippy environment of the island when travelling around. Often, the field recordings are used very lightly or almost unnoticeable, but they’re always the starting point for the musical outcome.
Hope you enjoy the trip.
(And many thanks to Marcus from Fieldmuzick for giving me a chance to release Massimo on his beautiful label)

about cone

CONE was founded by Hermann Blaupunkt, former guitar player for stoner rock outfit Lupu Negru and owner of Studio Casa Cassette. The guitar and other string instruments will always be important in CONE output. Freaky folk parts blend with field recordings suddenly ripped apart by a fuzzy guitarsolo or a subtle noise passage. Apart from the guitars, there’s toy instruments, voices, effect boxes, organs, field recordings from all over the globe and other stuff….

Kindamuzik.nl about first album:

“Thoughtful soundscapes where guitars, field recordings, subtle noise and lo-fi vocals go hand in hand with the analog warmth from a cassette tape.”

Vital Weekly 648

In the ongoing series of 3”CDRs on Field Muzick two new releases. The first is by Cone, one Hermann Blaupunkt, a guitarist from Lupu Negru and owner of the Studio Casa Cassette. Despite his German sounding name he is from The Netherlands. He recorded a bunch of sounds in Sicily (also the home of Massimo, the erstwhile noise glitch artist – where ever he is now?), which he combined with his guitar playing back in his studio in Eindhoven. Repetitive sounds played on the six strings, while adding nice field recordings from a theatre, a train and the beach. The field recordings play a small role here, but they certainly add a nice element to the bittersweet guitar melodies. A whole album would perhaps be too much, but this is a sweet appetizer.
